From the Manila Bulletin (Nov 5, 2020): Soldier wounded in Negros Oriental clash with NPA (By Glazyl Masculino)
A member of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) was wounded in a clash with suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday.
According to Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), the troops responded to a report from concerned citizens about the alleged presence of armed men in the area. A firefight ensued at around 5 p.m.It was followed by another engagement at around 7 p.m. in the village where the soldier was wounded.
Pasaporte said the troops encountered about 10 to 15 unidentified armed men who later withdrew from the encounter site.
He said the wounded soldier was already extricated from the area and was brought to a hospital.
“He’s conscious despite sustaining injuries,” he added.
Pasaporte said it took a while for the wounded soldier to be taken from the scene because it was raining so hard and the area was too dark.
A clearing operation is ongoing.
