Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 27, 2020): One trooper died in Lanao del Sur Mishap
CAMP SANG-AN, Zamboanga del Sur | One of the four wounded troopers who were injured in an explosion died after their chopper emergency landed in Madalum, Lanao del Sur, 5:00 p.m.Thursday.
At around 9:00 a.m. same day, the troops of 55th Infantry Battalion were on combat operations, while along their way to the objective, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded.
The four slightly wounded troopers were air evacuated and supposed to be medically treated when the pilot of the chopper decided to emergency land due to bad weather.
One crew of the Air Force was also injured during the mishap and all others are in good condition
Maj.Gen. Gene Ponio, Commander of 1st Infantry Division expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the hero trooper.
“We have done everything just to save our wounded soldier the fastest way we can thru our air assets, unfortunately the incident happened,” said Maj. Gen. Ponio.
“Rest assured that the benefits of the fallen trooper will be taken cared and the financial or other assistance will be given to his immediate family,” added Maj. Gen. Ponio.
As of this posting, all wounded and injured troopers were treated and all are in stable condition.
