SIATON, Negros Oriental- Lieutenant General Cirilito E Sobejana, the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, visits Negros Island on Friday, November 27, 2020.

Lt. Gen. Sobejana and party first graced the 49th Founding Anniversary of the 11th Infantry Battalion, where LTC Ramir J Redosendo welcomed him through a traditional military arrival honors with the commanders and staff of different Army units on the island.



In time with the 11IB Anniversary, Lt. Gen. Sobejana awards the Martial Law Citation Badge after the unit’s assignment in Mindanao during the declaration of Martial Law from 2017 to 2018 for the Island of Mindanao. Likewise, he pinned the new ranks of the ten newly promoted Enlisted Personnel of the unit.

In this rare moment, the Army Chief conveyed his personal message to the troops while checking on their well-being.

“11IB has been my home. I am proud to be part of the unit that contributed much in reducing the threats posed by the enemies of the government. The Lapu-Lapu Troopers indeed demonstrated tenacity and competency where fear is just a reaction and courage is always a decision.” Sobejana said.

As a young lieutenant, he served as Platoon Leader of Charlie Company 11IB from August to November 1987, Tactical Officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Company 11IB from November to December 1987, Executive-Officer/Platoon Leader of Charlie Company 11IB from January 1988 to January 1989, Executive-Officer/Platoon Leader of Delta Company 11IB from January to July 1989, Officer in Charge of Alpha Company 11IB from July to October 1989, and Company Commander of Alpha Company 11IB from October 1989 to October 1992.

Similarly, he addressed the elected public officials who likewise graced the occasion: Governor Roel Ragay Degamo of Negros Oriental; Congressman Arnie Teves of 3rd District, Negros Oriental; Mayor Cezanne Fritz Diaz of Siaton Town; Mayor Pryde Henry Teves of Bayawan City; and Punong Barangay Christophie Diocos of Barangay Salag, Siaton.

“The Army is neither above nor below you, your Army is working beside you. We should work together because we share common goals of achieving peace as our contribution to the people. As workers of the people, we should not forget good governance as they deserve good services from workers of the government. ” Sobejana added.

Sobejana is a native of Zamboanguita town in Negros Oriental. Last August of this year, he was awarded with the highest commendation of the said municipality for bringing honor and prestige to his hometown.

He is likewise considered as one of the country’s great living heroes after having been awarded the Medal of Valor, the country’s highest military award for courage.
