CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela – Col Santiago I Enginco INF (GSC) PA is set to serve the people of Cordillera as BGen Henry M Doyaoen PA relinquishes his Command as Brigade Commander of 503rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army in Tabuk City, Kalinga on November 26, 2020.

Col Enginco is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990. During his junior years, he was assigned as Platoon Leader, Company Commander and eventually, Battalion Staff in Mindanao for eight years in 27th Infantry Battalion then under 6th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

He was reassigned in 5ID from 2001 to 2004 and was designated as the operations officer, S3 of 503 Brigade and later, as the Administrative Officer and the Deputy of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3, 5ID.

He held various positions such as the Battalion Commander of 49th Infantry Battalion, 9th Infantry Division from May 18, 2009, to June 04, 2011, where he contributed to the peace and order situation in Bicol Region against the terrorist New People’s Army. He was also assigned in Northern Luzon Command as the Assistant Chief of Unified Command Staff for Personnel, U1 and Civil Military Operations, U7 from 2012 to 2014 before he became the Chief of Special Concerns Division of OJ3, GHQ, AFP in 2015. His Mindanao assignment continued from 2016 to 2019 when he was assigned as Chief, Governance and Strategy Management Office (GSMO) and Acting Chief of Staff of 1st Infantry Division before becoming the Deputy Brigade Commander of 101st Infantry Brigade, 1ID, PA. Prior his present designation, he was the Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retirees Affair of 5ID from July 25, 2019, to November 26, 2020.

In his message, Col Enginco thanked the former Commander of 5ID, MGen Pablo Lorenzo (Ret) for bringing him back to 5ID. He also expressed his gratitude to MGen Laurence E Mina for his trust and confidence in recommending him to lead the 503rd Brigade.

“This road must be hard but 503rd Brigade is on top of its game in ending local communist armed conflict. So, I am appealing to the men and women of this unit to continue rendering your efforts in everything you do to help me achieve our mission. We have to bring everyone of us alive in our families.” He then assured the Peace and Justice troops that he will be focused in leading the unit.

Meanwhile, during the stint of BGen Doyaoen as Brigade Commander, he introduced dynamic innovations and concepts in operations and material management that greatly contributed to the dismantling of Komiteng Larangan Guerilla (KLG) Ifugao and downgrading of KLG Marco in Mt. Province. He also pursued an operational development for the Community Support Program conducted in the red and white areas that resulted in the clearing of 11 insurgency-affected barangays and the co-optation of Ifugao Peasant Movement and student organizations in Ifugao State University.

BGen Doyaoen is set to assume as the Deputy Commander of Northern Luzon Command.

MGen Laurence E Mina, Commander, 5ID presided the turn over ceremony where he acknowledged the accomplishments of the outgoing Commander and challenge the incoming commander to sustain the gains of the 503 Infantry Brigade.

“The unit has grown better each time with the caliber of the commanders who led it. The 503rd Brigade remains to be one of the best Brigades of Philippine Army. With Col Enginco in command, I have no doubt that the PEACE and JUSTICE Brigade will sustain the culture of excellence and be an instrument in bringing peace, development and prosperity in the Cordilleras.”

Mayor Darwin Estraňero of Tabuk City, Mayor Gabino Ganggangan of Sadanga and other local officials graced the said event.
