Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur – Through the revelation of a newly-surrendered NPA rebel, the Army and Philippine National Police (PNP) discovered an enemy arms cache containing multiple high-powered firearms in a joint operations held on October 14, 2020 at the boundary of Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte and Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.


Successfully recovered from the arms cache in the boundary of Sitio Madagas, Brgy Guibo, Siayan, ZDN and Sitio Pisio, Brgy Balonai, Midsalip, ZDS were two (2) AK-47 assault rifles with two (2) magazines and one (1) M16A1 assault rifle.

The operation was conducted by the joint elements of Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) and 1st Military Intelligence Battalion (1MIB); PNP’s 1st Zamboanga del Sur Police Mobile Force Company (1st ZSPMFC), Police Intelligence Unit-9, 902nd Mobile Company (MC) of Regional Mobile Force Battalion-9 (RMFB9), Regional Intelligence Unit-9, and Midsalip Municipal Police Station (MPS); National Intelligence Coordinating Agency-9 (NICA9); FS WESMIN; and 3012nd AISS, 301st SMG, PAF.

The said joint operations was a follow-up operations against the Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs), based on the result of the custodial debriefing to the newly surrendered personality of NPA’s Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).

Accordingly, the CNT war materiel recovered belongs to the crumbling MRGU, WMRPC, following the apprehension of their commander, alias JOTHAM, last September 22. According to 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the successful result of the joint operations is attributed to the harmonious relationship and convergence between the Army, PNP, and other friendly units.

Lt. Col. Herrera added that the revelation and cooperation of the newly-surrendered NPA is a proof that they also want to end the NPA’s 5-decade-long violence, terror, and extortion of the poor. The gained CNT war materials were immediately brought at 1st PMFC Stationed at Camp Abelon, Pagadian City for proper disposition and safekeeping.
