From PTV News (Oct 13, 2020): AFP to monitor schools, social media to prevent ASG recruitment
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will monitor schools and social media to prevent possible recruitment of minors by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
The military is aware that the ASG is strengthening its forces after the successive arrests of its high profile members.
According to AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay, they are coordinating with the Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units (LGUs) to watch closely the Madrasah School in Mindanao.
The military will also keep an eye on social media especially now that most of the students are under distance learning.
AFP Chief Gapay has stated that aside from launching operations against the terrorist group, they will also focus on strategies to keep the ASG from fortifying its forces.
“As part of the national strategy in countering terrorism, still it’s a whole of nation approach that’s why we had these comprehensive anti-terrorism program of the government” – Report from Bea Bernardo
