Army troopers recover an IED planted along a roadside in Mati City.
MATI CITY, Davao Oriental- A concerned Mati citizen informed troops that an improvised explosive device (IED) was placed near the barangay road at Purok Crossing of Brgy. Tagabakid, Mati City, Davao Oriental prompting Colonel Krishnamurti A Mortela, Commander of 701st Brigade to deploy troops to secure the area.

Combined troops of 701st Infantry Brigade, 28th Infantry Battalion and 104MICO, 10MIB, 10ID proceeded to the area and subsequently recovered one (1) IED weighing fourteen (14) kilos with twenty four (24) meters trip wire. Said IED believed to be planted by NPA unit in the area to inflict casualties to the police and military.

"We condemn the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) for continuously using IEDs which may inflict great harm to the civilians especially when placed in nearby communities such as roads where everybody is passing by. This is another violation to the mandates of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). If this was not found out, this will bring deaths and casualties to innocent lives,” Colonel Mortela said

"We thank the populace for always feeding us information that helps in preempting the terroristic activities of the CNTs. This is a clear manifestation that CNTs are losing the support of the masses,” Mortela added. (PR)
