CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Sept. 7 (PIA) - CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Sept. 7 (PIA) - The newly-installed chief of the Philippine Army has commended the operational readiness of the 5th Infantry Division in maintaining the peace and security situation in its area of operations.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana visited Camp Melchor Dela Cruz for the first time on September 4 and was welcomed by 5th ID Commanding General B/Gen. Laurence Mina.
During his visit, he boosted the morale of the Star Troopers to continue performing their best to make the Cagayan Valley Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region safe from Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs).
“We will do our best to look into the needs and evolving problems and situation in insurgency as we continue to work with sense of passion to achieve peace in order to sustain the best satisfaction rating we gained,” Sobejana said.
Meanwhile, Mina reported the accomplishments of the division to the army chief where he highlighted the DSSP Kapayapaan Plaques they received as a result of the successful dismantling of three Guerrilla Fronts (2 in Cagayan Valley and 1 in CAR) and neutralization of CPP-NPA terrorist leaders.
Mina also reported the significant reduction of CTGs manpower and firepower and the cutting of mass base support system in the area of operations of 5ID.
Sobejana also visited the camp’s "Happy Farm Ville" which houses the 56 Former Rebels (FRs) from Isabela.
The villa which is part the Salaknib Former Rebels Integrated Farmers’ Association (SFRIFA), is a transitional program for the former rebels that integrates farming activities through the initiative of the 95IB and 502IBDE in cooperation with TESDA, PLGU and the Department of Agriculture (DA) of Isabela.
