MATI CITY, Davao Oriental - In celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan and the 12th Reactivation Anniversary of the 701st Infantry "Kagitingan" Brigade, Youth Peace Volunteers of Davao Oriental trekked to Sitio Tagbanahaw, Brgy. PM Sobrecarey, Caraga, Davao Oriental last August 30 to 31 to celebrate peace through their Paglaum Outreach Program.
Gracing the event was Vice Governor NiƱo Sotero L. Uy together with forty-eight (48) youth volunteers from different municipalities. Sitio Tagbanahaw is one of the farthest sitios in Caraga previously identified as a conflict-affected area.
The activity was spearheaded by SK Pantuyan Chairman Ziegrade Joy Madanlo in convergence with the Lumon Community and Community Development Team of Youth For Peace Movement (YFPM) Davao Oriental, 701st Infantry (Kagitingan) Brigade, 28th Infantry Battalion, 67th Infantry Battalion, PNP Caraga and MLGU Caraga duly represented by Councilor Jemaika Balante.
More or less 120 households from the said sitio benefitted from the menu of services that include literacy and advocacy talks, turnover of school supplies and hygiene kits to Tagbanahaw Elementary School, distribution of food packs to the families, feeding program, praise and worship, fun games and tree planting.
In her message, Punong Barangay Lourdes Basta expressed her gratitude to the troops and youth volunteers who took the risks to deliver services and to promote peace with her constituents.
“We are truly grateful to celebrate with the community in Sitio Tagbanahaw our 12th Reactivation Anniversary to share the blessing of peace with the people whom we have sworn to serve and protect”, Colonel Krishnamurti A Mortela, Commander of 701st Brigade said. (701 Bde)
