Mawab, Davao de Oro –Another Ranking NPA Member Surrenders, Yields High Powered Firearms in Davao de Oro Mawab, Davao de Oro – As the NPA unceasingly looses its foothold in Davao de Oro, another high ranking member of the New People’s Army (NPA) laid down 2 high powered firearms as he surrenders to the 71st Infantry KAIBIGAN Battalion (71IB) under the leadership of LTC Sonny E Gonzales, Sunday.
“Gikapoy na kaayo ko sa tumang kalisod nga ako natagamtamam sa taas labi na karun nga nagsunod-sunod og surender ang ako mga kauban”, said JJ (true name hidden on purpose), a former medic of Weakend Guerilla Front 2 (WGF2) and recently a squad leader of the sub-regional guerilla unit (SRGU) of the NPA. (I’m very tired already in the NPA because of the extreme hardship I experienced there; much more now that many of my former comrades successively surrendered to the government.)
As JJ surrendered to the 71IB, he also turned over high caliber firearms, 1 M16 and 1 M653 together with numerous magazines loaded with live ammos.
As of this writing, JJ is in the custody of the 71IB for the enrollment of ECLIP or
Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program where he is expected to receive more than Php 200 000 for the firearm remuneration aside from the livelihood assistance.
Since last month, 6 of JJ’s comrades surrendered ahead of him and are now living a peaceful life through the help of the provincial government of Davao de Oro under Gov Jayvee Tyron L Uy.
One of his comrades, Daryo, also a medic of the WGF2 , surrendered his firearm, Galil with live ammos last July 20. On the other hand, alias Jun divulged the location of arms cache containing M14 and Garrand Rifles on July 16 while alias David revealed an ammo cache comprising hundred of caliber .50 live ammos and an improvised explosive device on July 27.
“The successive surrender of the NPA members bespeaks the forthcoming collapse of the NPA operating in the 2nd District of Davao de Oro as it succesively looses valuable manpower and firepower”, said LTC Gonzales, Commanding Officer of the 71IB.
“The goal of ending local armed conflict in our locality is already in the grasp of our hands”, he added.
The 71st IB continues to intensify its counter insurgency operations vis-a-vis the peace initiative of the local government units, civil society organization and private entities through the EO 70 which institutionalizes the Whole of Nation Approach in ending local armed conflict.
The 71IB operates in the municipalities of Mawab, Maco, Mabini, Pantukan and 4 barangays of Nabunturan all of Davao de Oro and Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
