Galvez condemns 'brutal, soulless' bombings in Sulu

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 25, 2020): Galvez condemns 'brutal, soulless' bombings in Sulu (By Lade Jean Kabagani)

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. has condemned the twin blasts in Jolo, Sulu that killed at least 14 people and wounded 77 others on Monday.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families. No one deserves such a painful and violent death, especially in the hands of individuals whose only aim is to sow fear, hatred, and terror,"
Galvez, also the chief implementer of the government’s pandemic response, said in a statement on Tuesday.

"While we are fighting to overcome the challenges spawned by the Covid-19 pandemic, these heartless perpetrators continue to carry out such brutal, soulless acts,"
he added.

Galvez urged everyone to remain calm but vigilant as authorities thoroughly investigate the incident.

"These terrorists will attempt to sow discord, create confusion, and break our spirit. They are terribly mistaken. These attacks will only serve to embolden us, strengthen our will, and bring us together as a people," he said.

Galvez said the bombings would not deter the country from achieving its goal to break the cycle of violence in Sulu and bring lasting peace to the island-province.

"The perpetrators of these dastardly acts shall be brought to justice and be held accountable for the crimes they have committed against the people of Sulu and all Filipinos," he added.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has already tightened security in public places in Metro Manila following the twin blasts.
