MAGPET, COTABATO – The Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Antipas, North Cotabato in collaboration with 1002nd Infantry Brigade and 72 Infantry Battalion, conducted a “2-Day Punong Barangay’s Peace and Development Summit” on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Tourism Building, municipality of Antipas.

The Barangay Captains’ Summit with a theme, “Kapit Kamay tungo sa Pagbabago ng Barangay. Makiisa, Makilahok at Makialam” was attended by 13 Barangay Local Executives and 11 members of Sangguniang Kabataan of Antipas. The activity specifically aims to appraise the role, functions, duties and accountabilities of every barangay chairman. Moreover, it also focused on the empowerment of individual local governance at the barangay level by educating them on the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020; giving them knowledge on how to protect their communities by strengthening Integrated Territorial Defense System; and enhancing their knowledge on the different programs of the government intended for them; lastly, appraising the barangay LCEs on their role in the implementation of Retooled Commumity Support Program and EO Nr 70 “Whloe of Nation Approach”
The summit commenced by the presence of Hon. Egidio Cadungon Jr., and Hon. Cristobal Cadungon, Mayor and Vice-mayor of Antipas respectively with the facilitation of the Municipal Local Government Operation Officer Ms. Ivy S. Cervantes and the troops of 72IB led by Ltc Rey T Alvarado, Commander, 72IB.

Moreover, said activity was initiated by the LGU-Antipas in partnership with 72IB and also in collaboration by the different local agencies from the DA, DENR, DILG, PAO, PPDO, PNP, TESDA, MHO on giving lectures on their ongoing programs and projects. There were also testimonies from Former Rebels on their experiences regarding the Communist Terrorist’s propaganda and infiltration in the barangays exploiting legitimate issues.

On the last day of the summit, Hon. Rudy Caoagdan, representative of 2nd District graced the occassion as Guest Speaker during the culmination program. Col Potenciano C Camba INF (GSC) PA, 1002Bde Commander also attended the activity together with PCpt Jorlito Patrona PNP, COP, Antipas MPS; heads of different Local Gov’t Agencies, Hon Egidio Cadungon, Municipal Mayor; and Hon Cristobal Cadungon, Vice Mayor, LGU staff and troops of 72IB.

“We are very thankful for the active participation of all brgy captains and SK officials. This activity signifies your true commitment to service. Your Army will always be your partner in achieving a lasting peace in our communities; and always ready to facilitate the LGU and LGAs in the smooth delivery of basic services in the farthest sitio.” LTC Rey T Alvarado, said in his message.

On the otherhand, Mayor Egidio Cadungon Jr and Cong. Rudy S. Caoagdan espressed their appreciation and gratitude to all the participants and facilitators and promised to give their full support in the development of their respective barangays.
