MADRID, Surigao Del Sur August 20 – A total of 17 members and supporters of the New Peoples Army voluntarily surrendered without firearms to the Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion yesterday, August 19, 2020 at Headquarters 36IB, Brgy San Juan, Madrid, this Province.

The 17 surenderees were composed of Four (4) NPA regular members who are on lie low status and thirteen (13) Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) members composed of three (3) Sangay sa Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) and ten (10) mass supporters/contacts who are all residents of Sitio Sibayoto, Brgy Tigabong and Brgy Buntalid both of Cantilan, SDS who withdrew their support from local communist movement and voluntarily surrendered to LTC JEZREEL J DIAGMEL INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, 36IB in Brgy San Juan, Madrid, SDS.

Said surrender was made possible thru the effort of CSP Teams and Former Rebels deployed at Brgy Buntalid, and at So. Sibayoto, Brgy Tigabong, all of Cantilan, SDS.

Surrendered SPLs and UGMO members revealed that a certain resident of So. Tublihon, Brgy Parang, Cantilan served as courier and had a direct contact and access to Noel Tumarlas Alacre @Megan, CO of Pltn 2 and Rickey Mahinay @Amara, VCO of Pltn 2 both of WGF30, NEMRC. Said personality are responsible in the delivery of assorted foodstuffs, flashlights, ropes and other supplies on monthly and quarterly basis to include cash amounts ranging from 5K to 50K to the aforesaid CNT group.

Also, the surrenderees revealed that some individuals and establishments are the source of cash amount and food supplies that were all from Madrid, SdS.

According to the CSP team, the 17 members decided to voluntarily surrender because of the hardships that they experience in the hands of the communist terrorist group and their failed promises and ideologies. Also, they added that thru the CSP they saw the sincere gesture of the government in addressing the issues and needs of the community especially, the marginalized sector and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDAs).

“We realized that we supported the wrong organization. We were deceived by the sweet words and false promises of the CTG in uplifting our lives where-in the reality they are the ones who force us to provide for their foodstuff, money and other materials for their own sustenance”. one of the surrender SPL said.

In his statement, Lt Col Diagmel, said that the relentless efforts of the CSP teams to accomplish their assigned tasks coupled with commitment and dedication to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development and with the support of the local officials leads to the successful surrender of the Former Rebels and supporters.

“With the sincere desire of the people to transform their community into a peace loving and productive citizen. Convergence of efforts among the local government agencies is proven effective in achieving the peace and development that we are longing for,” Army official said.

“We are appealing to those remaining CNT members and supporters in the nearby areas to surrender now and return to the folds of the law. Like the 17 surenderees who are now enjoying their life with their families and loved ones. Lay down your arms and avail the programs of the government ” Lt Col Jezreel Diagmel concluded. The 17 FRs and mass supporters will be process and validated for their enrolment to E-CLIP, a government intervention package for Former Rebels.
