MUNAI, Lanao del Norte, July 24 — Pakigdait Alang sa Pag-amoma sa Kalinaw (Pakigdait) Inc., in partnership with VSO Philippines and the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, under the leadership of BGen Facundo Palafox IV, turned over a cow and goats to the combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) 127th Bilal Base Command on Thursday, July 23.

“The AFP now understands the importance of Eid’l Adha and so they wholeheartedly gifted the cattle to you," Musa Mohamad Sanguila, Regional Coordinator of the United Religions Initiative Southeast Asia and the Pacific said on a conversation with Aleem Ansari of the MILF; Maj. Rolly Jesson Melendrez of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade; Abubacar Laba, Sultan Maulana sa Pindulunan; and Pakigdait Inc. director Abelardo Moya.

This initiative is an indication of the improving relationship between the AFP and MILF and could be considered as a great step in the journey towards peace in Mindanao.

“This is like a water handpump; at first we have to pour some water to the pump so that the water will continuously flow," Sanguila added referring to the beginning and the future of the peace between the AFP and MILF.

Director Moya said to the MILF 127th Base Commanders that Pakigdait is basically putting great importance on magnifying the voices of the marginalized MILF camps to the entire process of the Bangsamoro transition, specifically the camp transformation, that is; from camps to communities and from combatants to active citizenship.

"Our desire is to have a strong and united Camp Bilal, as the only peace-process recognized camp outside BARMM areas," he added.

Pakigdait is an interfaith grassroots peacebuilding organization that engages in conflict transformation, advocates peace, initiates interfaith dialogues, and creates various peace-anchored community development projects in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Functioning not just as a non-government organization; it is also a council of inter-religious leaders from Islam, Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Pentecostals, and leaders from the Philippine Independent Church, and United Church of Christ in the Philippines who have been leading peacebuilding efforts in various communities in Mindanao for over 20 years.
