MISAMIS ORIENTAL, July 5 (PIA) -- Former New Peoples Army (NPA) rebels have received livelihood assistance from the government after they returned to the folds of law through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) and the whole-of-nation approach stipulated under Executive Order 70 of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to attain peace and development in the country.
This was revealed by Lt. Col. Ricky L. Canatoy, Commanding Officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion (IB)of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in an interview during the recent CORDS X Podcast with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin M. Andanar.
Three members of the communist group New People's Army had surrendered to the 58th IB, namely, alias "Dino" a platoon leader of the NPA and his wife alias "Dina" an NPA medic, and alias "Jigs." They also surrendered high caliber of firearms, bombs, documents and a laptop.
They will now receive financial and livelihood assistance under ECLIP to start their new lives as civilians.
The three are now staying at the headquarters of the 58th Battalion and for a long time they are now able to sleep and eat well without fear, Canatoy said.
"Under the ECLIP they can receive initial cash assistance of P 15 thousand, P50 thousand as livelihood assistance, P450 thousand housing project/assistance and firearms enumeration," he said.
Aside from the monetary benefits, the returnees will also receive free medical assistance and trauma incident management from the AFP and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to prepare them for their return to the mainstream society.
"To our brothers that are still with the NPA, we encourage you to surrender and cooperate with us. The government is willing to help you just like what we have done to your former rebel colleagues who are now with us and living peacefully. We assure you that we help you to have a proper livelihood so that you can live peacefully. The 58th IB "Dimalulupig" Battalion is willing to help you," Canatoy appealed. (JKAraña/PIA10)
