DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte, June 10 (PIA) - Some 20 former rebels (FR) received Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) assistance here on Tuesday morning, June 9.
The Provincial E-CLIP Committee released the assistance for 20 FRs that amounted to a total of P1.3 million during the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) meeting held at a local hotel.
"I am very thankful to our soldiers and the government for the assistance given to us, former rebels, who returned to the folds of law," said alias Diego in local dialect.
Each FR received P65,000 that consist the P15,000 Immediate Cash Assistance and P50,000 Livelihood Assistance.
Governor Roberto Uy, provincial E-CLIP chairman said "the provincial government will continue to assist our former rebels in their reintegration to their respective communities."
"As the Chairman of the PTF-ELCAC, we are also committed and focused in ensuring the delivery of basic services and addressing the root causes of insurgency in the priority target barangays of the province," Gov. Uy stressed.
The FRs will also undergo livelihood training program from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
For his part, Col Leonel Nicolas, Commander, 102nd Infantry Brigade said, "we would like to send a message to the remaining members of the CPP-NPA terrorists, your former comrades are the living testaments of the sincerity of the government in attaining just and lasting peace in the country."
Meanwhile, Major General Generoso Ponio, commander of the 1st Infantry Division thanked the different stakeholders and partners in the implementation of E-CLIP in the province of Zamboanga del Norte.
"The interplay of the different stakeholders in this campaign anchored in achieving peace and development shows the paradigm shift of our nation's approach from purely military to Whole-of-Nation," he said.
"In as much as we value the lives of the people we protect, we also aim to save as many victims of deception and exploitation by the CNT," MajorGen Ponio added.
As of latest records of the Army, 13 more FRs from Zamboang del Norte are still being processed under the E-CLIP. (EDT/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
