From the Philippine Information Agency (May 1, 2020): Troops in Zambo Norte seize NPA's firearms, war materials (By WESMINCOM)
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Camp Navarro, Apr 30 (PIA) - Troops of the 97th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army recovered more firearms and war materiel of the New People's Army in Zamboanga del Norte on April 29, 2020.
While clearing and scouring the area at around five in the afternoon following a previous operation in Barangay Guibo, Siayan, soldiers recovered one AK47 rifle, one M16 rifle with one long magazine, one M14 rifle with magazine, three Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 30 rounds of 50 caliber ammunition, 59 rounds 5.56mm ammunition, 10 rounds 7.62mm ammunition, one box medical kit, and one box assorted medicine.
"The recovered items were left behind by the fleeing communist terrorists during our follow-up operation against HQ Kalaw and Mindanao Regional Guerilla Unit in Barangay Guibo at dawn of April 28," 102nd Brigade Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas said.
Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander, Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, commended the troops for their series of accomplishments.
Troops continue to scour the area.
"We will not give these communist terrorists some time to rest and hide. We will continue to track them and stop them from creating havoc in the communities," WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said. (PR)
