A courier of the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group under Furuji Indama yielded to the troops of the 64th Infantry Battalion in Basilan on April 15, 2020.
Muhammad Batuken Balakat, a.k.a. Muadz, a resident of Barangay Tongsenghal, Sumisip, Basilan voluntarily surrendered at 64IB headquarters in TARBIDC Compound, Barangay Tumahubong of same municipality.
"The successful surrender is a result of the collaborative efforts of the Alpha company of 64IB, barangay officials of Etub-Etub, Sumisip, and the peace-loving citizens of the municipality," said Brig. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, Joint Task force Basilan Commander.
Balakat handed over one garand rifle with magazine and one round of ammunition.
"Amid our battle against this invisible enemy, COVID 19, Team WestMinCom sustains its peace efforts in order to achieve long-lasting peace in our area of operation," said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
"Hence, we are greatly happy with the unwavering support extended by our stakeholders and the people in our campaign to end terrorism," the commander added.
"Likewise, we urge the remaining ASG militants and other lawless elements to return to the mainstream society," he added.
