BALER, Aurora – The Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry (Sinagtala) Battalion (91IB) is stepping up its information and education campaign to counter the recruitment efforts of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), particularly among students in this province.
Lt. Col. Reandrew P. Rubio, Acting Commanding Officer of 91st IB of 7ID, PA and at the same time Assistant Commandant of Mount Carmel College (MCC) ROTC Unit, 307th (Aurora) Community Defense Center, 3rd Regional Community Defense Group, Aurora Reserve Command (ARESCOM) said on Sunday that they have conducted awareness campaign with the ROTC Cadets from MCC, Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), and Wesleyan University of the Philippines (WU-P) at MCC Campus Barangay Pingit, Baler, Aurora on Saturday (February 29, 2020).
The activity was attended by more or less four hundred (400) ROTC cadets.
Rubio said that the initiative is part of the implementation of EO 70 and the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF ELCAC) thru the unit Information and Education Campaign and Resource Control Operations purposely to prevent the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) from conducting recruitment in various schools.
During the activity, Rubio said that the legal-left organizations of the CTGs are continuously infiltrating the different sectors such as labor, IP, farmers, and student/youth to fill in their ranks and serve as future red fighters.
He also discussed the adverse effects of the schools once the CTGs will be able to organize the student sector.
He further said that the army under his command will continue to support the ROTC Programs and collaborate with the different LGUs and national government agencies in Aurora in winning the peace and in bringing the basic services closer to the people.
Col. Andrew D. Costelo, Commander of army’s 703rd Infantry (Agila) Brigade instructed his Unit Commanders in Central Luzon to persistently engage the different sectors to sustain the gains and initiatives of EO 70.
“This is an effective way of insulating the students from CTG recruitment and infiltration works targeting the said sector,” he said.
