PILI, Camarines Sur, March 13 (PIA) – An exchange of gunfire that lasted for 15 minutes sent an undetermined number of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members scampering in various directions, leaving different caliber of guns and other personal belongings at the encounter area.
9th Infantry “Spear” Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) Spokesperson CPT. John Paul Belleza conveyed in a press statement that joint elements of 83rd Infantry Battalion (83IB) and 2nd Police Mobile Force Company (2PMFC) of Camarines Sur responded to a report from residents of Brgy. Pugay, Bato, Camarines Sur that CTG members are conducting recruitment activities in the area.
A security operation was immediately conducted which resulted to a clash with more or less 15 CTGs exchanging gunshots with the government troopers in the wee hours of the morning, Friday, March 13.
No casualties were reported from the government side.

Recovered from the site were two M16 rifles, one M203 grenade launcher, one M1 garand rifle, three anti-personnel mines, three hand grenades, seven blasting caps, two rolls of detonating wire, seven long magazines for M16 rifles, subversive documents and other personal belongings.
Belleza lauded the team effort and prompt response of the 83rd Infantry Battalion (83IB) headed by its Commander, LTC Tommy Deliva and 2nd Police Mobile Force Company (2PMFC) of Camarines Sur.
Deliva expressed his gratitude to the residents for their cooperation and said that this significant move is a testimony of their intent to end local communist activities in their area.
“He said that the public's cooperation with the army's efforts to end the insurgency is an evident proof that they are sick and tired with the CTG's deceptions and atrocities. He also emphasized that the CTG is already demoralized and crippled with the intensified operations of the military.”
Prior to this, elements of 9th Infantry Battion (9IB) and PNP also recovered a bulk of war materials in the towns of Del Gallego and Ragay.
Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) under MGEN FERNANDO T TRINIDAD AFP believes that the successive recoveries of war materials and ammunitions during the encounters were the corollary of the urgent appeal of the government and cooperation of the public, former and surrendering rebels in the wide call of stopping insurgency,” the press statement further stated.
