State-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) has vowed to sustain reforms to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate information to the public.

Marking the 47th founding anniversary of the government's newswire service on March 1, PNA Executive Editor Luis Morente said the agency will continue to improve its newswriting standards and expand its network to provide objective, balanced and relevant news to Filipinos.

"We want the public to read stories that matter to them, stories that are up-to-date and we will continue coming up with feature articles that inspire change for our countrymen," he said, noting that the PNA has already reached wider audiences by introducing news programs that are available for viewing on television and other social media outlets.

"The PNA is on the process of evolving since 2016 by adding series of newscasts like the PNA Newsroom, and other programs like One-on-Juan and Pros and Cons," he added.

Morente said PNA will continue to uphold up-to-date news reporting and deliver stories that are timely and significant to the public, especially to the grassroots level.

This also includes disseminating timely, reliable and relevant news articles to community newspapers, national dailies, and local and international readers and subscribers.

These efforts, he said, have increased the readership of the agency, noting that the website has reached 2.5 million views as of January 2020 -- since it was launched as web-based newswire service in 2003.

Last year, the PNA inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the 2019 World Government Summit that sought to promote exchanging 'foreign country visits' of their personnel to experience journalism at hand.

In the previous years, the PNA also signed several news cooperation agreement with China Radio International (February 2017); Yonhap News Agency of South Korea (March 2018); Media Support and Asset Management Fund/DUNA Media Service Provider Nonprofit Ltd. of Hungary(August 2018); and AsiaNet and Middle East North Africa Financial Network, Inc. The PNA is a division of the News and Information Bureau (NIB), one of the attached agencies of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) headed by Secretary Martin Ruperto Andanar.

NIB Director Virginia Arcilla-Agtay said PNA will continue to live up to its mandate as a reliable newswire agency, as she expressed commitment to "sustain the reforms and innovations that we have introduced to the agency, to keep up with the current media trends."

She added that the public could expect better news reportage from the PNA to "give what Filipinos truly deserved."

In the 47 years of its existence, PNA has been tapped in the substantive coverage of presidential activities and has been on the frontline in covering major events in the Philippines.

Under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, its operation was overhauled and modernized, led by the launching of its new website interface design as well as the renovation of its central office headquarters.

PNA is located on the second floor of the Philippine Information Agency Building along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City.
