BALER, Aurora — The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) on Tuesday declared the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) terrorist group as "persona non grata" or unwelcome in all of its three campuses here and in the towns of Maria Aurora and Casiguran, this province.
ASCOT is the first school in Aurora to declare the communist organization as persona non grata.
Eutiquio L. Rotaquio, Jr., ASCOT president, said the move is in line with the national government’s thrust to end all armed threats in the country and to attain inclusive and sustainable peace in the conflict-affected areas and vulnerable communities.
“The ASCOT fully supports the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the maintenance of peace and order in the community and suppression of lawless violence that creates havoc, fear and panic among the populace,” Rotaquio said as he read his issued memorandum order at the ASCOT main office in Zabali campus here.
“Now, therefore, I hereby declare the CPP-NPA as persona non grata in all campuses of the ASCOT, a copy of this memorandum order be furnished the 91st Infantry 'Sinagtala' Battalion (91IB), Philippine Army and PNP for their information and reference,” he added.
Rotaquio told the Philippine News Agency in an interview that so far, there is no report of any form of activism in their campuses with a total student population of 4,072 and 370 faculty members and staff.
“We are one in rejecting the entry of CPP-NPA terrorists in our respective campuses for they are the ones creating instability to students, faculty members and staff,” he said.
Rotaquio also said he is willing to help in bringing back to the mainstream society any member of the terrorist group who would want to surrender to the authorities.
Lt. Col. Reandrew P. Rubio, acting commander of the 91IB, commended the school administration for its move to prevent the entry of members of the CPP-NPA in its campuses.
“Their action signifying their full support to peace and development in this province is commendable. The Army and PNP have ongoing dialogues with other schools and the Department of Education to do the same with ASCOT,” he said.
Rubio also lauded the local government units that have declared the communist organization as “unwelcome” through their respective resolutions.
