FIVE Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFFs) have surrendered to government authorities in Maguindanao amid the intensified military operations and imposition of community quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the military said Saturday, March 28.

Colonel Jose Narciso, Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade commander, said they surrendered Thursday to the 90th Infantry Battalion, in Midtimbang Village, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao.

Narciso
identified the BIFF surrenderers as follows: Saed Sadam Malsek; Mahir Mumna Datumanong; Said Abdullahsid Zuarto; Moktar Saed Pangalao; and, Usman Abu Ali.

Narciso said they handed over one M-16 “Baby Armalite” rifle with attached M-203 grenade launcher, one M-16 Armalite rifle, one M-79 grenade launcher, one caliber .50 sniper Barret rifle, and one M-14 rifle.


The surrenderers and firearms were presented to Colonel Joel Mamon, Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade deputy commander.

“The group was forced to surrender due to the extreme pressure from the focused military operations in the Joint Task Force Central area of operation in Maguindanao and its neighboring provinces,” Narciso said.

The BIFF surrenderers were placed under custodial debriefing while their were placed under the custody of the 90th Infantry Battalion for proper documentation and safekeeping.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, has commended the Joint Task Force Central troops for gallantly fighting against terrorism and courageously facing the threat of Covid-19 in their area of operation.

“We plead for continued prayers for the safety and protection of our soldiers and all the frontliners amid all the threats that we currently endure,” Sobejana added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
