CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Philippine Army has gain tactically on its successful focus military operations against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army terrorists (CNTs) members in Northern Mindanao and Caraga from 11-13 February 2020.
The focus military operations conducted by the brigades and battalions under 4ID successively hit the CNTs in the two regions. Three encounters were recorded in the three-day span where the CNTs suffered losses while no casualties on our security forces.
On Tuesday, at around 11:25 in the morning of February 11, troops of 29th Infantry Battalion was able to hit the CNTs in the vicinity of Barangay Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte. Another two encounters transpired on Wednesday, February 12, wherein troops belonging to 30th Infantry Battalion hit the CNTs in the hinterlands of Barangay Tolingon, Mainit, Surigao del Sur around 11:10 o’clock in the morning, while the troops of 65th Infantry Battalion hit the CNTs in KM17, Barangay Besigan, Cagayan de Oro City around 3:20 o’clock in the afternoon.
The three encounters resulted in one CNT member killed and the recovery of four high powered firearms (2-M16 rifles, 1-M4 carbine rifle, 1-AK47), one shot gun, one anti-personnel mine, bandoliers, magazines of M16 and AK47, assorted ammunitions and various personal belongings owned by the CNTs.
The successful focus military operations were attributed to the gains of our unit’s Community Support Program immersion in the 4ID’s area of responsibility wherein the civilian populace voluntarily gave information and tip-off the CNTs locations. Likewise, contributory to our tactical gains were the declaration of Persona-Non Grata and the continuous delivery of basic social services through the regional, provincial and city task forces to end local communist armed conflict in Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
Meanwhile, MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, the Commander of 4ID said, “We are successful in hitting the CNTs because of the convergence efforts of the local populace and the security forces to locate the armed group and address the root causes of insurgency. Hence, your diamond troopers will continue to conduct peace and development activities in the conflict affected and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas for the CNTs to abandon their armed struggle.
“Once again, I am calling on the remaining members of the CNTs to return to the folds of law. The door is widely open for you to return to the mainstream society and live peacefully with your families and love ones. The security forces together with the local leaders and the government agencies are ready to help you.” Gacal ended.
