CORCUERA, Romblon, Jan. 3 (PIA) -- A group of young people in Corcuera, Simara Island, Romblon organized an 'Alay Lakad' activity last December 27, 2019 to denounce the violence committed by communist terrorist groups (CTG) in the Philippines.
The group carried banners that said "We, the youths of Mimaropa, strongly condemn the terroristic and criminal activities of the CCP-NPA-NDF. We want peace, order, and security for our region and country; progress and prosperity for our family and people, and better future for the youths and our generation".
The activity was attended by participants from the youth sector, local government units, religious groups, senior citizens, and more.
Pastor Nick Facalarin, a member of Corcuera Municipal Advisory Council said that they organized the activity as part of nationally-coordinated simultaneous protest actions, following Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the New People's Army (NPA), and the National Democratic Front's (NDF) 51st founding anniversary on December 26.
In a phone interview with the Philippine Information Agency-Romblon, Facalarin encourages youths not to join communist groups but instead focus on their studies for their future.
"Wala namang NPA dito sa atin, pero payo ko pa rin sa kanila kung ma-imbita man sila, na mas magandang mag-focus na lang sila sa kanilang pag-aaral, at sa mga religious groups sumali (Although there's no NPA here in our community, but I still advise them that if ever they will be invited by the communist to join, it is better to focus on their studies or join religious groups instead)," Facalarin said.
In 2019, Romblon province was declared as an insurgency-free province - the second province, after Cavite, in Southern Luzon to be declared by the military as an insurgency-free province with its stable internal peace and security. (PJF/PIA-Mimaropa/Romblon)
