Two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the police authorities following series of negotiations in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, an official said Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director,
identified them only as a certain Ka Toy and Ka Dodo, who surrendered Wednesday to the police in Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Quidilla said the surrenderers turned over two handguns-- a magnum .357 revolver and a caliber .45 pistol. They belong of the NPA’s Main Guerrilla Unit (MRGU) headed by a certain Ka Elyong, he added.

The former rebels will undergo appropriate interventions by the government for their new life in the fold of law under the Executive Order No. 70.

PRO-9, a member of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), said it is optimistic that more NPA rebels will surrender seeing the benefits and opportunities for rebel returnees.

Quidilla commended the police in Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte for the peace initiatives that led to the surrender of the two NPA rebels.

He urged the other NPA rebels to surrender and "live the life they truly deserve in the arms of the government."
