CAMP MONTECLARO, Igtuba, Miag-ao, Iloilo – The 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion in partnership with the LGU- Tubungan spearheaded a 3-day Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) held at Community Learning Center, Tubungan Iloilo. At least 150 Tubungan youth from all walks of life participated in the said leadership summit that commenced on December 06 and culminated on Sunday, December 08.

The closing ceremony of the YLS was graced by Hon. Matt Palabrica, Board member, 3rd District of Iloilo where he captured the attention of the participants through his true-to-life experience as a Sangguniang Kabataan leader before.

“As youth, we want to change everything. And, we can start changing everything by changing ourselves,” Palabrica stressed. The YLS aims to enhance the potential of the youth to become responsible citizens and catalysts of peace and development.

This activity will also educate the youth on the importance, functions, responsibilities and the constitutional mandate of the national and local governments; develop values of compassion and patriotism among the youth, and instill awareness on important matters and issues in the society.

According to LTC Joel Benedict Batara, Commanding Officer, 61IB, the summit will help encourage the youth to become enthusiastic agents of peace building,committed environmental activists, and responsible citizens of the nation. LTC Batara expressed his deepest gratitude to LGU-Tubungan headed by Honorable Mayor Roquito Tacsagon, the Municipal Mayor for supporting the activity.

“The overwhelming support of LGU-Tubungan will surely boost the morale and
welfare of the future young leaders of the town as they courageously pursue the right
and peaceful path towards the attainment of their dreams,” LTC Batara said.
Further, Batara encouraged every Tubunganon youth to be a more responsible
member of the community, be an advocate of peace and progress, and be the
source of the town’s pride.
