TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Nov. 11 (PIA)--One of the sub-leaders of the New People's Army (NPA) who had an encounter with the 95th Infantry battalion and the 53rd Division Reconnaisance Company on Oct. 24, at Sitio Diwagden, Barangay San Jose in San Mariano, Isabela voluntarily surrendered to the joint forces of the police and army today.

Alias "Popoy", who was a 1st Squad Leader of SGU Central Front, KR CV, a group that operates in San Mariano town and in the nearby areas,
voluntarily surrendered to the joint forces of the 95th Infatry Batallion, DPAO of the 5th Infantry Division, 1st Isabela Provincial Mobile Force Company and JITG Manangbalbaliw.
In a police report, alias "Popoy" was fetched by the army and police personnel at his house today after his pronouncement to voluntarily surrender and return to the fold of the law.

"Popoy" said he surrendered because he can no longer contain the hardships he's experiencing with the rebel group.

The former rebel also surrendered two M16 riffle, one magazine, bullets, one bandolier, one handheld radio, four improvised explosive devices (IED), two blasting caps, 30 meters of detonating cord, two external computer hard drives and other documents.

For his part, BGen. Laurence Mina, brigade commander of the 502nd Infantry Brigade assured that "Popoy" will receive all the benefits under the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) alongside with assuring his security and his family. (ALM/MDCT/PIA-2)
