CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – The Regional Chairman of the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) in Western Mindanao, a known CPP-NPA-NDF ally, and fifteen of its members resigned and declared the group as persona non grata in the municipality of Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur, Friday, November 22, 2019.

Juanito Caramba, became the chairman of Alliance of Farmers Union in Zamboanga del Sur (AFUZS) since 2012 and later became the chairman of the KMP in the year 2016.

“Naging aktibo ako sa pagsama at pag-organisa ng rally sa Pagadian at sa Manila hanggang ngayon 2019 at nakapag isip-isip na yung grupo na mali at wala nang direction ang gating pinaglalaban at maayos naman ang gobyerno”, ani ni Caramba.
“I was active in organizing and staging a protest in Pagadian and Manila until year 2019 however the group realized that we were wrong and our actions/protest has no direction and the government is governed well”, said Caramba.

To formalized their resignation, Caramba and his followers signed an agreement not to continue on with the KMP and will not support the CPP-NPA- NDF activities and eventually collaborate with the programs of the government to attain just and lasting peace in the municipality.

Relatedly, CPP-NPA-NDF was also declared persona non grata during the event and Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) was launched.
Serbisyo Caravan of the 10th Infantry Battalion, 1st Civil Military Operations Battalion and 102nd Infantry Brigade, headed by Col. Leonel Nicolas, government agencies and volunteers was also conducted in the same venue.

“This is a very significant and historical event in the municipality of Josefina. Unity and partnership of various sectors and organizations is vital in our pursuit of peace and sustainable development in our area of operation”, said Nicolas.

For his part, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) Acting commander, lauded Mr. Caramba and his followers, the troops, volunteers and the local government units for the momentous event.

“The declaration of the CPP-NPA-NDF as persona non grata in the municipality and the resignation of Mr. Caramba and his members will weaken the terrorist group’s logistics and organizational activity”, said Gaerlan.

“Rest assured that we will pursue the remaining terrorist, and we’ll continuously encourage surrenderees to make our area of operation peaceful and insurgency-free”, Gaerlan concluded.
