CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – A church volunteer has found an improvised hand grenade inside the church compound on Saturday, October 12, 2019, in Datu Piang town of Maguindanao.
The church volunteer, Revin Maravilla, discovered the improvised grenade at around 7:00 a.m. while cleaning inside the compound of St. Therese Parish Church at Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Poblacion of Datu Piang town.
Maravilla reported the discovered grenade to Roger Rivera, the parish administrator, who turned it over to a nearby military detachment from 57th Infantry Battalion.
The 57th IB troops cleared the vicinity of the parish church and conducted investigation on the area where the grenade was found.
Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Central Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon, thanked the civilian volunteer for his prompt action and reported the incident immediately to the military authorities. The Commander also encourages the community to do the same and be alert at all times to prevent bombing incidents in Maguindanao.
The grenade was turned over to Army’s Explosive and Ordnance Disposal unit for proper disposition and the incident is currently under investigation.Attachments area
