Military troops facilitated the surrender of a communist terrorist and a supporter in Lanao del Sur yesterday, September 19.
Militia ng Bayan member Joveniano Cabaluna, 56, yielded to Lt. Col. Rafman Saltre, 82nd Infantry Battalion Commander, in Barangay Pawak, Saguiaran at 12:40pm yesterday.
Cabaluna, a resident of Little Marawi, Tagoalan II, handed over his Caliber 5.56mm M16 rifle. He returned to the fold of the law after a series of negotiations with the 82IB troops.
NPA supporter Emran Bayantong, 39, also surrendered to the 82IB troops on the same day.
Cabaluna and Bayantong underwent a custodial debriefing facilitated by the military troops.
Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, Joint Task Force ZamPeLan Commander, said, “The surrender is an offshoot of the sustained offensives and cooperation made by our troops to debase the manpower and capability of the communist group in Lanao.”
“Military forces employ more pressure with their tactical and intelligence operations against the communist group on the ground. We complement this with our localized peace negotiations to enlighten and convince more rebels lured by the communist group to finally cross the line and support the government’s campaign for peace and progress in western and central Mindanao,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Western Mindanao Command.
