CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur-Two armed rebels were killed in an armed clash between the government troops and members of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Barangay Taopon, Panganiban town, Catanduanes province, Sunday, September 22.
According to the report, combined elements of 83rd Infantry Battalion (83IB) and Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC) were conducting combat operations around 1:20 in the morning when they encountered at least seven armed guerillas.
Firefight lasted for ten minutes which resulted in the death of the two still unidentified communist terrorists and the recovery of one AR15 rifle.
No one was harmed in the government side.
Hot pursuit operation against the rebels who were seen scampering towards different directions is on-going.
It can be recalled that Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) under MGEN FERNANDO TRINIDAD AFP said that the Army in Bicol is enforcing full military force against the CTG and prevent their extortion and other illegal activities affecting innocent civilians and the communities. Nevertheless, he reiterated that the government is also ready to welcome with open arms the members of the armed movement who will abandon the armed struggle and help them establish better lives through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
JTFB, as one of the active members of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) or Task Force Katuninongan asin Kauswagan is also committed in ending the insurgency by uniting with the other government agencies in providing quality services to the public.
