From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 25, 2019): 10ID bares 3-year achievements
DAVAO CITY -- The Army's 10th Infantry Division said a total of 1,467 regular members of the New People's Army (NPA) have surrendered within its jurisdiction since June 2016.
In a statement Thursday, the 10ID said a total of 1,185 Militia ng Bayan members also surrendered within the three-year period, as well as 363 Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) members, and 94 members of leftist groups that the military consider as fronts of the communist rebel movement.
Within the three-year period, the division said a total of 146 rebels were killed while 804 anti-personnel mines were recovered or surrendered.
The military also managed to recover 572 firearms from the rebels and discovered 550 NPA hideouts.
The 10ID further reported that it was able to arrest 35 Militia ng Bayan members and 214 regular NPA members in the same period.
Based in this city, the 10ID has operational responsibility over the Davao region, parts of the Soccsksargen region (Sarangani, South Cotabato, 2nd District of North Cotabato and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat), Trento, Agusan del Sur, and Lingig, Surigao del Sur.
Jerry Lamosao, 10ID spokesperson, attributed the division's accomplishments to the cooperation of local officials, noting that in 2017 alone, about 80 percent of NPA surrenderers yielded to local government units.
"Another factor for the rising number of (surrenderers) is the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte about the livelihood and other forms of assistance to be given to the NPAs who wanted to surrender," Lamosao added.
