Amid the conduct of security patrol, troops from the 6th Special Forces Battalion, together with five members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team, recovered high-powered firearms and war materiel on Minis Island in Barangay Latih, Patikul, Sulu at 7:45am yesterday, June 3.
Seized were an M14 Rifle, an M16 Rifle, a bandolier, three M14 magazines, an M16 magazine, pieces of ammunition, a set of PHILARPAT uniform, and a set of PNP BDU.
At 3:35pm of the same day, troops recovered another M653 with M203 Grenade Launcher rifle, five M14 magazines, and an M16 magazine loaded with ammunition near the previous location.
“The said firearms were cached by surviving Abu Sayyaf members under a.k.a Jackie Chan during the encounter with the Philippine Marine Ready Force on said island last December 13, 2018. The recovery was a result of the continuous Community Support Programs and the utilization of BPATs on said island,” said Major General Divino Rey Pabayo, Jr. of the Joint Task Force Sulu.
Said firearms and war materiel are temporarily kept at the headquarters of the 6th SF Battalion before they will be turned over to the proper authorities.
“We believe that with the support of the LGUs and the peace-loving Tausugs of Sulu, more successful operations are coming our way,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief.
