BANCASI, Butuan City – “The NPA here in Caraga has degenerated as plain bandits and lowlife terrorists. Said group has perpetrated numerous atrocities particularly kidnapping, arson, murder of innocent and unarmed civilians, recruitment of minors to bear arms, and ambush of government troops. Have these violent acts translated to change and uplifted the people’s lives after fifty (50) years?” says Col Maurito L Licudine Commander, 402nd Infantry Brigade condemning in the strongest terms the actions of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) after they kidnapped seven (7) civilians last May 30, 2019 at around 10:00am along the boundary of Tandag and Lanuza, all of Surigao del Sur.
The CTGs for the past fifty (50) years have brought nothing but suffering, pain and death. It has sabotaged the economy and exploited issues to create chaos and incited insurrection among the people. None of the peace-loving citizens of this country have heard that a single barangay was transformed into a developed community and improved living condition of the people under the CNT influence for so many years.
The Army Commander expressed his strong condemnation of the continuous inhumane acts of the NPA justifying their TERRORIST status. “We have recorded four (4) murder perpetrated and owned by the CNTs within our area of responsibility in the past two (2) months. The common denominator of the victims is that all of them are non-combatant civilians who only seek peace and are supportive to the government initiatives of peace and development.
“This time around, the CNTs are sowing fear to the communities, kidnapping several civilians to include minors last May 30, 2019. Until now, these minors were unable to speak due to their traumatic experience in the hands of the CNTs. I call upon the CNTs to stop their harassment, intimidation and other atrocities against the people.
Instead, be part of the change under the spirit of unity and peace. Otherwise, the full force of the law and the long arms of justice will be brought upon you and the time of reckoning is coming. Likewise, we urge local leaders that we shall stand in unison to condemn the CNTs and together, put an end on their terror acts”, Col Licudine ended.
