TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- Lanuza town Mayor Salvacion Azarcon has condemned the terroristic act committed by the New People’s Army (NPA) terrorist for abducting seven civilians including the two minors that took place along Tandag City River - boundary of Tandag City and Lanuza town, on May 30, 2019.

“As the mayor of this municipality, I am furiously condemning this act of terrorism of the NPAs with no respect to Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law,” Mayor Azarcon said in her official statement released on Saturday, June 1.
The Local Crisis Management Committee of Lanuza immediately convened on Saturday and discussed the plan on how to secure the safe release of the remaining captives from their abductors.

According to 36th Infantry Battalion Civil Military Operation (CMO) officer Lt. Jonald Romorosa that while the seven victims were drifting cut logs, they were suddenly flagged down, harassed, and held captive by the NPA terrorist equipped with high powered firearms.

Around 3:00 p.m. of the same day, four of the seven abducted civilians were released by the NPA, including the two minors, Romorosa said.

The remaining captives were tied up and brought to the mountainous part of Sitio Banaho in Barangay Matium, Tandag City. Romorosa identified the three remaining captives as Ryard Badiang, Wendil Delicuna, and Angelo Duazo.

The victims were all residents of Sitio Ibuan, Barangay Mampi of Lanuza town, the first community in Surigao del Sur that declared the NPA terrorist and their organizations as persona non-grata on March 2019.
