From the Business Mirror (Jun 17, 2019): Govt hands out P5.775-M cash to 75 alleged ex-NPAs in Surigao del Sur
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said about P77,000 in cash were given to each of the 75 alleged former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Surigao del Sur who, according to the military, surrendered to the government.
Capt. Regie Go, spokesman of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said about half of the 75 are members of the indigenous Lumad tribe.
Go said each received P65,000, which came from the funds of the “Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program,” or E-CLIP. He added the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur also gave P7,000 each while the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave P5,000 to each of the alleged ex-NPA guerrillas. The total financial assistance amounted to P5.775 million.
Go said each of the 75 also received a hygiene kit, vegetable seedlings, assorted food packs and one-year membership certificates in PhilHealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corp.)
Likewise, each of the 75 were awarded with scholarship commitments by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) in skills training and livelihood program.
Go said in a statement Department of National Defense Undersecretary Reynalco B. Mapagu, head of the E-Clip, led the distribution of cash over the weekend.
The statement from the AFP didn’t carry comments from any of the 75 alleged former NPA guerrillas.
