From Kalinaw News (Jun 17, 2019): 71st Infantry Battalion discovers enemy encampment, recovers paraphernalia



Mawab, Compostela Valley Province – On June 16, 2019, troops of 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion scoured an enemy encampment at at Sitio Babasal, Brgy Manipongol, Maco, Compostela Valley.

Lieutenant Colonel Esteveyn E Ducusin, Commanding Officer of 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion upon receipt of information from concerned citizen directed the troops to conduct a combat operation which resulted to the discovery of enemy encampments and belongings.

Having known of the enemy’s presence, Lieutenant Colonel Ducusin instructed troops to continue operation. Troops under First Lieutenant Randy A Coloma discovered an enemy encampment and recovered one (1) Cal .38 with thirteen (13) live ammunitions, two (2) improvised Shotguns with four (4) ammunitions, two (2) Cal .22 Rifle, thirteen (13) live ammunitions of Ctg 5.56 mm, sixteen (16) live ammunitions of 7.62 mm, one (1) Improvices Explosive Device (IED), twelve (12) pieces High Explosives Blasting Caps, two (2) magazines of M16, three (3) magazines of Cal .45, one (1) magazine of 9 mm with six (6) live ammunitions, one (1) set of detonating battery, four (4) 1.5V dry cell battery, seventeen (17) bottles of butane, one (1) Analogue Multi-Tester and one (1) unit Chainsaw.

The enemy encampment and recovered items believed to be owned by
Weakened Guerilla Front 2 (WGF 2), Sub Regional Command 2 (SRC 2), Southern Mindanao Regional Command (SMRC).

“We have been receiving information from concerned citizens of the neighboring Sitios near the encampments. They are the beneficiaries of our recently concluded Gusto ko Mag-aral Project 2019 in partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Incorporated which we were able to distribute more than 4,000 bags for the municipalities of Maco, Pantukan, Mawab and Mabini”, Ducusin said.

“Obviously, communities are turning their backs from CNTs because they have seen the efforts of the unit together with the local government and other stakeholder in extending vital programs especially in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area,” Ducusin added.
