From the Manila Bulletin (May 30, 2019): Army drive puts pressure on Abu Sayyaf in Sulu
ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) on Thursday said the Abu Sayyaf has been worn out by the relentless offensive launched by the military in Sulu since May 25.

Joint Task Force Sulu Commander Brig Gen. Rey Pabayo Jr. said the series of surgical operations launched by the military since last week had caused severe casualties to the group.
WestMinCom said that Thursday last week troops from the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion fought an estimated 50 Abu Sayyaf fighters under Sawadjaan in Barangay Buhanginan.
After the encounter, soldiers saw blood stains in the engagement site, indicating casualties suffered by the enemy.
A soldier with a minor wound was airlifted to Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City.
On Saturday afternoon, four Abu Sayyaf militants were killed and six others were wounded in a 30-minute skirmish with troops from 13th Special Forces Company who were after the group of Mundi Sawadjaan in Barangay Igasan, Patikul.
Two more Abu Sayyaf died and another was wounded in successive operations of the 13th SFC in Barangay Igasan on the same day.
Soldiers from 5th SRBalso engaged Sawadjaan’s group in Barangay Sandah, Patikul Monday afternoon, killing a militant and wounding four others in a 30-minute battle.
The WestMinCom commander, Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega said, “JTF Sulu troops intensify their campaign of hunting and running down Abu Sayyaf terrorists through sustained operations, intelligence build-up, and cooperation with the Suluanons on the ground.”
“These actions will be furthered to defeat terrorism by eliminating the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu, ” Dela Vega said.
