From GMA News Online (May 31,2019): 1 NPA member killed, firearms recovered after eastern Samar clash with military

A member of the New People's Army was killed in a shootout while firearms and subversive documents were recovered by the military early Thursday morning.

Soldiers from the 14th Infantry Battalion were conducting an operation, over
run an NPA camp in Sitio Bagong Barrio, Barangay Pinanag-an, Borongan in eastern Samar at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, the military said in a statement.

The government forces recovered one .357 magnum with four live ammunition, one improvised explosive device (IED), two magazines for AK-47, two rifle grenades, one M203 ammunition, 15 backpacks, assorted medicines, three blasting caps, five cellular phones, one detonator or bomb switch, assorted ammunition for AK-47, M16, Garand rifles, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

No one was injured among the government troops.

The military attributed the discovery of the camp to the residents in the area.

Maj. Gen. Raul M. Farnacio, Commander, 8th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force STORM believed that the NPAs are on the run since the Army launched its relentless internal security operations in the far-flung communities influenced by the terrorists.

"Ito ay nagpapatunay na epektibo ang mga ginagawang mga programa at hakbang ng ating mga kasundalohan sa tulong na rin ng ating mga kababayan upang matigil na ang pananamantala, pag-impluwensiya ng mga rebeldeng NPA sa mga liblib na kanayunan sa rehiyon," said Farnacio.
