NegOr police to conduct medical mission in Canlaon City

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 12, 2019): NegOr police to conduct medical mission in Canlaon City

Amid a “tense” atmosphere prevailing in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, following the deaths of farmers during a recent joint police and military operations, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is spearheading a medical and dental outreach mission this weekend in that mountain city.

Police Lt. Col. Ali A. Baron, Negros Oriental OIC provincial police director, disclosed on Friday that the outreach activity on Saturday is being spearheaded by the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) in coordination with the different government agencies as well as the local government of Canlaon.

It is also in response to instructions from the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7), he said.

Chief Master Sergeant Edilberto Euraoba III, NOPPO spokesperson, said the activity will be held at the covered court of Barangay Panubigan in Canlaon City.

The activity is being sponsored by the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) in cooperation with the Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Visayas, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Health, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine Central Command, 302nd Achiever Brigade of the Philippine Army, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Canlaon City LGU, and the Center for Police Strategy Management Unit.

The outreach program will provide minor surgery, tooth extraction, circumcision, medical consultations, and other health services.

There will also be free legal consultation, referrals and assistance on problems regarding land disputes, ownership and acquisition, with a team of lawyers from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Agrarian Reform.

“This activity aims to bring government services closer to the people in Canlaon City especially because the people there feel that they have been deprived, especially following the deaths of some farmers there during the joint military and police operations last March 30,” said Baron in the Cebuano dialect.

The PNP is “reaching out” to them in a “whole government approach” by bringing together these government agencies to offer their respective services to the people of Canlaon, he added.
