ASG member nabbed in Muntinlupa

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 26, 2019): ASG member nabbed in Muntinlupa

Police arrested a suspected member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Muntinlupa City.

Citing reports from Camp Crame Friday, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson, Col. Bernard Banac, said operatives of the Southern Police District (SPD) arrested Aldemar Murih Saiyari in Alabang on Wednesday night.

Saiyari has a standing arrest warrant issued by the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) for kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

Banac said the suspect was working as a private security guard with a fake license when arrested.

He is one of the ASG members involved in the April 2000 kidnapping of 21 tourists from a resort island off Sipadan, Malaysia.

The victims were then brought to Sulu where they were held captive.

He added that the private security agency, Blue Panthers, where the suspect worked for, was also found to be operating illegally as its license to operate expired in 2014.

The agency was previously ordered by the PNP Civil Security Group to stop operations in 2016 for failure to renew its license.

He said the suspect is currently under the custody of the SPD.

Banac said following the ban on employment of security details during the election period, the PNP Civil Security Group and Supervisory Office on Security and Investigation Agencies are conducting regional field visits and closely monitoring all private security agencies and guards nationwide to ensure their strict compliance with election rules and resolutions.
