CAMP GEN SERVILLANO AQUINO, Tarlac City (DWDD) – Separate incidents of a New People’s Army (NPA) surrender and an encounter transpired in Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) Area of Responsibility on July 28, 2018 (Saturday).
A Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) member, alias Bravo, yielded to NOLCOM Army forces under the Joint Task Force (JTF) “TALA” of the 5th Infantry Division (5ID). The subject disclosed that he was recruited by a certain Amor Tangonan @Gada and eventually joined the underground movement (UGM) sometime in 1984.
He further mentioned that he was working as a farmer prior to his recruitment and later became initially a CNT contact in their barangay then later a messenger or “pasabilis” to alarm the terrorist group of government forces’ presence.
Accordingly, they operate in the municipalities of San Pablo, Tumauini, Cabagan and Ilagan City all of Isabela. He was then sent home because of his health condition after suffering from malaria.
Alias Victor, also a NPA member operating in the province of Zambales of the Sangay ng Yunit Pampropaganda Tarlac-Zambales (SYP TAR-ZAM) under the Central Luzon Regional Committee (CLRC), voluntarily surrendered without firearm to NOLCOM troops in Tarlac City. A Bicolano, aka Victor decided to leave his group at the end of the year 2017 before surrendering formally to the authorities.
On the other hand, an encounter ensued at 9:00 in the morning of same day between the CNT Groups of Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) North Abra and the 24th Infantry Battalion (24IB) under the 702nd Brigade, JTF “Kaugnay” of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) in Brgy Sallapadan Barrio, Sallapadan, Abra.
The NOLCOM troops were on combat operations when the five (5) minute firefight happened. No casualties were incurred by government troops while undetermined on the terrorist group.
The AFP units under NOLCOM will keep on pushing the fight against terrorism and continue to conduct Law Enforcement Support Operations (LESO), in collaboration with all stakeholders and Local Government Units in the area. NOLCOM aims to attain closure of the insurgency soonest. NOLCOM / MCAG
