TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur (DWDD) – A group of soldiers and Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), while on their way towards their patrol base in Brgy Sta Rita (KM24), San Luis, Agusan del Sur were ambushed by the New People`s Army, (NPA) belonging to Guerilla Front 88 (GF88), North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) at about 2pm yesterday (October 22, 2017).
The incident resulted to a ten-minute gun battle where the outnumbered government troops out maneuvered the communist terrorist group and seized their positions.
Subsequently, two (2) NPA members were found dead, one (1) AK47 rifle with magazine and twenty-seven (27) rounds of ammunition and two (2) Improvised Explosive Devices with blasting caps were recovered.
One civilian (name withheld for security purposes) who was travelling with the group of soldiers was caught in the cross fires and was hit on his leg by terrorist fires.
“The troops were alert while on the move that`s why they were able to prevent this cowardly act of the NPAs. These terrorists (NPA) clearly committed a crime and violation of CARHRIHL in this incident”. – Ltc Rommel Pagayon, CO 26IB, said.
Troops of 26IB are now pursuing the fleeing NPAs involved in the said ambush. 26IB/MCAG
