‘NPA leader’ charged with rebellion

From the Sun Star-Bacolod (Sep 14): ‘NPA leader’ charged with rebellion

THE police filed a charge of rebellion against a suspected high-ranking official of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was arrested after an encounter between government troops and rebels in Candoni, Negros Occidental last September 9.

Mercedita Flores was charged on September 11 in relation to Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Flores was arrested at her house in Barangay Gatuslao after police received information that the reinforcement of rebels who engaged in a firefight with troopers of Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) had coffee with her.

Police recovered from her residence a long firearm.

While the SAF and the Philippine Army were conducting internal security operations in the village on September 9, armed men fired at government forces that injured a policeman. Government forces recovered two long firearms, medicine kits, subversive documents, and personal belongings.
