ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Six more people were arrested in possession of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bomb-making components in this city, the police said Tuesday.

Supt. Nonito Asdai, Police Station 6 chief, identified those arrested as: Garry Jarani, 21; Abdusali Jarani, 58; Balli Samsarani, 50; Munsol Bara, 19; Alijon Maimbong, 45; and, Tando Tanoh, 48, all residents of Maluso, Basilan.

Asdai said the suspects were arrested by his personnel backed by Maritime policemen in a buy-bust operation at around 11 p.m. Monday in Sitio Buggoc, Barangay Kasanyangan.

Asdai said the suspects were arrested after they sold bomb-making components to an undercover policeman in exchange for P150.

He said the buy-bust operation was carried out after they received information on the suspects illegal activities.

He said the arresting team confiscated from the suspects' possession the following: 21 kilos ammonium nitrate; nine improvised non-electric blasting caps; seven time fused; one measuring cap; seven bottles of 750-milliliter (ml) containing alleged ammonium nitrate; one bottle of 355-ml containing ammonium nitrate; and, P150 marked money.

He said the suspects are now detained while appropriate charges are being readied to be filed against them.

The arrest of the suspects came two days after the police also arrested one person and confiscated large amount of bomb-making components in this city.

Arrested in a law enforcement operation on Sunday was Pagal Nasang Aliapan, 35, resident of Malamawi Island, Isabela City, Basilan province.

Aliapan, who is allegedly into the illegal sale of bomb-making components, was arrested at his temporary residence in Arena Blanco, a coastal barangay in this city.

Aliapan was arrested after he sold bomb-making component in exchange for P500 to an undercover policeman.

Confiscated from the residence of Aliapan were the following: 75 pieces of blasting caps; 17 pieces detonating cords; three plastic bags of one kilo ammonium nitrate; 10 plastic bags of half kilo; 15 sacks of 25 kilos ammonium nitrates; one electrical cutter; and P500 marked money.
