Posted to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Website (Mar 4): EU Experts present proposed plan for “Improving Mindanao’s Good Governance Framework”
For the second time, a team of European Union experts arrived at Administrative Camp of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao where they were warmly received by the MILF Chairman himself, Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and Head of Central Committee Secretariat, Muhammad Ameen.
During Thursday’s visit (March 2, 2017), the group composed of Bernard Jolly from France, Pierre Van Roosbroeck from Belgium and Staff in the Philippines Lily Hidalgo and Muslima L. Benito presented to the MILF leadership a comprehensive proposed plan for “Improving Mindanao’s Good Governance Framework”.
Said presentation is a result of interviews with authorities/officers from several agencies, stakeholders and peace advocates in Cotabato, Davao and some from conflict affected areas.
The European Union is an economic and political union of 28 European countries, which started as purely economic grouping of European countries that evolved into an organization that span on policy areas from climate, environment and health to external relations and security, justice and migrations.
The program objectively designed and as described by the group, and with authorities of the peace process is perceived to start in 2018. EU experts solicited critique, comments from stakeholders and peace process officials. Counter proposals were also heard from the MILF side.
A brief view of the program presentation, included in the two components, Political and Institutional components were: Support to Peace Process, Support for a Bangsamoro Democratic and Administrative Governance Institutions, Environment and Natural Resources, to name a few.
The meeting ended fruitfully, as it is viewed to be of significance to the continuing peace efforts.
