Teresita Pangantihon, wife of Special Field Cavalier Awardee Vicente Pangantihon, received the plaque on his behalf.

Pangantihon passed away on June 24, 2016 at the age of 73 and left behind his advocacy that only thru education and literacy can ignorance and poverty be eradicated.

Pangantihon has devoted his literacy talents to the upliftment of the impoverished sectors of society throughout his life, especially among the indigenous tribes.

It was his personal belief that insurgency is a result of dysfunctions in society, and cannot be solved with guns and bullets.

He was the author and publisher of many articles on historical heritage and cultures of indigenous and cultural minorities, and had published three books namely: Kinaray-a English Dictionary and Thinking Aloud in 2014 and Karay-a Rice Tradition Revisited in 2009.

Pangantihon also had helped defray educational expenses of indigent students using his personal funds and as a lawyer, had extended free legal assistance to the poor in the barrios.
