From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 18): PMAAAI honors Air officer who rescued 7-year-old boy during Yolanda onslaught

Col. Fermin Carangan, the Air Force officer who saved a seven-year-old during the height of Supertyphoon "Yolanda" in November 2013, was awarded the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. Cavalier for Air Operations for 2017.

The former is a member of PMA Class of 1992.

Awarding took place at the annual PMA Alumni Homecoming festivities in Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City, Saturday.

For his acts of heroism, Carangan, who was then Group Commander, Tactical Operations Group-8, was awarded the Bronze Cross, the nation's third highest military decoration.

Also, for helping in the resulting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions, the Air Force officer was given the "Gawad Sa Kaunlaran".

"He is a seasoned helicopter pilot. He demonstrated his academic excellence as he graduated in the upper 25 percent of his class as an honor student in the AFP Command and General Staff Course Class 55 at AFPCGSC in CGEA, Quezon City," his citation read.
