PHL to host global peace convention next week

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): PHL to host global peace convention next week

Business heads, government officials, NGO leaders and entrepreneurs will sit down in a series of forums at the 2017 Global Peace Convention (GPC) to be held here next week.

The annual event will be held for the second time in the country on Feb. 28 to March 3 at the Marriott Convention Center in Pasay City with the theme, “Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Peace and Development”.

The convention is set to discuss the role of private sector business in significant issues, such as poverty reduction, sustainable development and regional stability, highlighting emerging markets in Southeast Asia.

During the meeting, regional and global experts will engage in a dynamic exploration of industry and corporate practices that can contribute to true "bottom line" -- the peace and prosperity of all people.

Business leaders, including Philippine Islands Chamber of Commerce president Jose Luis Yulo Jr. and Congressman Arthur Yap, will examine the role of government in promoting and facilitating an entrepreneurial environment for sustainable commerce and industry, and the entrepreneur's role in creating jobs.

The Philippines hosted the Global Peace Foundation’s first Global Peace Convention in 2009.

This year's meeting will bring in leading global experts and practitioners to share their best practices for sustainable peace and development, in various convention tracks, which include Youth Leadership and Service, Transforming Education, Women’s Leadership Culture, and Economic and Business Forums.

The convention expects nearly 4,000 participants from 40 countries. It has projects in 23 countries across the world.
